Meet Kess

Kessey Jill Cham, MS is a chemist, curriculum designer, educational consultant, and the President and CEO of KhemWithKess, an academic success and STEM tutoring company serving undergraduate and pre-professional students nationwide. With over 16 years of experience (since 2009), Kessey has supported nearly 1,800 students, specializing in Organic Chemistry, pre-med, pre-dental, DAT, and MCAT preparation. Her work focuses not only on mastery of rigorous content but also on developing sustainable learning systems that help students perform effectively under academic pressure.

Kessey’s instructional philosophy moves beyond outdated educational models and centers on multimodal instruction, emotional engagement, and metacognitive strategy development. Emotional engagement involves intentionally designing learning environments where students feel supported, motivated, and confident enough to participate actively rather than disengage due to fear or imposter syndrome. Metacognitive strategy development equips students to evaluate how they learn, why particular study approaches fall short, and what adjustments lead to stronger retention, efficiency, and exam performance—skills essential for success in demanding STEM and professional-track programs.

Her passion is rooted in lived experience. Once placed on academic probation with a 0.91 GPA, Kessey completed her undergraduate studies at Georgia State University with a 2.43 GPA, carrying the weight of being told she would fail for nearly a decade. Despite this, she went on to lead General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry laboratory programs for over 10 years and oversee departmental scheduling and instructional logistics within the Department of Chemistry at Georgia State University. Then she taught at Spelman College for almost 3 years. She also designed and implemented Teaching Assistant training and placement programs at both institutions, strengthening instructional continuity, operational efficiency, and student support across multiple course levels. Through faith, discipline, and refined study systems, she rebuilt her academic foundation. She earned her Master of Science in Chemistry with a minor in Public Health from Georgia State University in Spring 2021, graduating with a 3.428 GPA.

Through KhemWithKess, Kessey serves as a facilitator, trainer, consultant, and transformational learning strategist—guiding undergraduate, pre-med, and pre-dental students through Organic Chemistry while supporting DAT and MCAT readiness. She supports students in managing heavy academic workloads, interpreting complex scientific literature, overcoming language and cultural barriers, strengthening time management, and rebuilding academic confidence. Her approach blends structure, accountability, encouragement, and faith-informed mentorship.

Kessey remains deeply connected to students by relying on faith, active listening, empathy, and her ability to remember what it felt like to sit where they are—ambitious, overwhelmed, and striving for excellence. Outside of her professional work, she enjoys traveling, playing volleyball, binge-watching a good series, and spending time with friends and family. Her mission is clear: to help students rise beyond self-doubt and succeed with clarity, confidence, and purpose.
